Wow so yeah the Dodgers were Bussssssssssisssssssssy yesterday. Lets start at the top:

Dodgers trade Matt Kemp(OF) and Tim Federowicz(C) to the Padres for Yasmani Grandal(C), Joe Wieland(P) and a Minor Leaguer. This is HUGE for the Padres who have needed a real bat in their lineup (Yes I went to the Padres side first because I’m a San Diego fan :P) Padres have been suffering from bat-itis since signing the Gyorko extension. Having Kemp in the lineup is beyond gigantic for them and Padre fans. The Dodgers get a very stead stable catcher and Wieland who could be a good reliever down the road. In my opinion (Again it will be biased) San Diego totally won out on this trade Federowicz isnt as good of a catcher as Grandal but your getting Kemp who is a All-Star. Makes me think however that the Dodgers were wanting to get rid of Kemp, they do have extra outfielders already so everyone thought one of them would be expendable.

Dodgers sign Brandon McCarthy the starting pitcher from NYY. Brandon was 7-5 last season but really looked good after he left the Diamondbacks for the Yankees part way though the season. He will definitely help the rotation as the Dodgers have lost several pitchers via trade and free agency so far this off season.

Dodgers trade Dee Gordon(2B), Dan Haren(P), Miguel Rojas(SS) to the Marlins for Andrew Heaney(P), Enrique Hernandez(IN), Chris Hatcher(P) and Austin Barnes(C). This trade doesn’t make a ton of sense at first glance. Dee Gordon and Dan Haren were pretty vital to the year the Dodgers had last year. Haren always pitches well, normally above 500 record with 150+ innings and Dee Gordon who had a 286 Avg last year and is a solid second basemen. Rojas split time between the majors and minors last year but looked much better in the 51 games at the end of the season after being sent down.

Dodgers immediately trade Andrew Heaney(P) to the Angels for Howie Kendrick(2B). So now the above 6+ player trade makes more sense. The Dodgers replaced a good second basemen with a better one. Kendrick is much more established and consistent then Gordon is at the moment, which means Dodgers are looking at this and the next season instead of long term for a title run.

Dodgers trade for Jimmy Rollins(SS) from Phillies. I’m still looking for what the trade consisted of as no one has disclosed the terms or other players involved. I’ll update this as I find the information. After loosing Hanley Ramirez to the Red Sox this is HUGE for the Dodgers infield. However Rollins is going on his 16th year so Dodgers are looking to the next two years as their title run time window with their current roster.

All in all the Dodgers looked busy as hell, wheeling and dealing all over the place. They definitely shored up their infield and added some nice pieces even if they are focused more on the ‘win now’ rather then the long term.

“Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?”
