The Bombers must own a Time Machine

The Yankees are headed to places they haven’t been in years.

They are currently(before the game today) 8 and 16 and in dead last place in their division, which the Red Sox are top in the division let me state. The Bronx Bombers haven’t been this bad since 1991, seriously they stinkith badly. Before today’s win they were 6.5 games back and really have been doing their best Atlanta Braves impression.

Their pitching has been terrible, like mud pie that your toddler makes you eat terrible. Masahiro Tanaka is the only starting pitcher with an ERA under 5, he is at 2.87 right now. At the beginning of the season his health was one of the biggest question marks and now he is the only one that looks like his arm is attached. C.C. Sabathia who hasn’t looked like a viable starter in 3 years barely beat out Ivan Nova out of spring training for the fifth starter spot. In years past he has had flashes of his 09-11 seasons but for the most part other then loyalty I have no idea why he is taking the mound most of the time. This season he has 4 starts with two of them he hasn’t gotten past the 4th inning (4.2 innings in two games, 6 innings in the other two) giving up 25 hits and 12 earned runs in 21.2 innings. To say he has been bad is being really really nice. Now I have to say he does have 1 win to his record this season, the first game where he gave up 3 earned runs on 4 hits.

Doc Brown and the Delorean must have dropped C.C. Sabathia from the past off at the ball park tonight. The Baltimore Orioles had no idea what kind of wall they were going to run into. C.C. threw 7 shut out innings only allowing 6 hits and 2 walks with 6 strikeouts. You have to go back to July 29th of 2015 to find a game that C.C. when 7+ innings in and before that one all the way back to May 16th 2015.

Now C.C. may have used up all his fairy dust tonight but wow it was impressive to shut down a offense that has been on fire (yes not as much as the Cubs or the Mets but still). Even if C.C. doesn’t do a damn thing the rest of the season THIS was why they kept him, because games like this are still somewhere in that big ole arm.

UPDATE 4:00PM 5/6 – Two days after C.C. threw the awesome game I talked about above he was put on the 15 day DL with a strained left groin muscle. Ivan Nova is going to replace him in the line up.
