It was all in the name but no one noticed

I have verbally complained about the Mets Matt Harvey’s nickname for … well since he was given it.

For those that don’t know Matt Harvey was given the nickname “The Dark Knight” by some idiot at Sports Illustrated. They put it on the cover and it stuck….

Obviously whoever came up with this nickname and EVERYONE ELSE AT SI is dumb or had one of those ‘Oh what the hell moments’.

Why do I say this?

Have you heard of Batman? His real name is….. Bruce Wayne…. That sounds absolutely NOTHING like Matt Harvey. You are saying ‘Yeah but there was some guy named Harvey, wasn’t he something someone somewhere?’. You would be right there is a guy in the Batman Comics and Movies named Harvey. Harvey Dent in fact and he was the District Attorney of Gotham city and he had a nickname too!

The White Knight… Not the Dark Night who is Batman. Harvey Dent was the White Knight of Gotham, cleaning up the streets by punishing those criminals Batman beat up with laws and jail cells. He was the shining symbol of justice, Batman was the guy who wore a mask and beat people up.

Okay so Matt Harvey should have been nicknamed the White Knight because he shares the name with Harvey Dent. Wait he kinda looks like Batman maybe that’s why!

Oh shut it that’s just stupid. We all know Batman looks like Michael Keaton.

Before you try to explain it more you want the REAL nickname Matt Harvey should have? It is even related to the correct character in the Batman universe Harvey Dent.

Two Face.

Depending on which you are more familiar with (the comics or the movies) Dent gets horribly disfigured on one half of his body by someone (Sal Maroni or Joker) and it also fractures his personality. He adopts the use of a coin to decide between the old Harvey and the new kill everything Harvey.

Now think about Matt Harvey post Tommy-John surgery. Last season he was awesome 13 and 8 with a 2.71 ERA. Pitched 189.1 innings only giving up 14 homeruns and 37 walks. Then the World Series happened and the other face of Harvey showed up. 14 innings, 10 hits, 5 runs, and 4 walks in 2 starts. Then this season he has still adopted the second face 3 wins and 5 losses, not including tonight(5/19) where he gave up 9 runs in under 3 innings. In his 3 wins he has given up 2 runs each time, which isn’t terrible, they consider that a quality start. However in his 5 losses 19 runs again not including the 9 he gave up tonight.

I really really think we need to change that nickname of his… He is definitely no Dark Knight. He is however someone where you are never sure what you are going to get from him.

Two Face.
