Rotographs is a great site, tons upon tons upon even more tons of information. Sometimes you find an article that is supposed to be completely number driven with awesomely done graphing of those numbers and find something you can’t wrap your head around.

Today was one of those days. A very good article titled “What exactly do launch angles mean, anyway?” by Andrew Perpetua talks about the StatCast term that is being thrown around every time you watch MLB Tonight, “Launch Angle”. The Article is a great explanation of the term and how it gets derived… But

While reading the article I found myself extremely distracted by a term that was being used over and over and over again.

Yes that is right I said xBacon.

My brain totally had a moment where nothing else could be inputted or comprehended. It was stuck in a loop repeating over and over xBacon… xBacon… xBacon…

And then I was hungry for bacon…

Heck I’m still hungry for bacon…

This is what I’m talking about how can you reference something like xBacon without making all kinds of giggles and porky jokes? I have to give it to Andrew because how he wrote an entire article referencing something like xBacon a bunch of times without letting it influence your writing is amazing.

BTW if you were wondering xBacon means “expected batting average on contact”. Which really isn’t as fun as saying xBacon.

MmmmmMm Bacon….
